05/25/2010 -
Denver, CO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Colorado Avalanche have signed defenseman
and team captain Adam Foote to a one-year contract for the 2010-11 season.
The undisclosed contract allows the veteran to return for a 19th NHL campaign
and 17th with the Colorado/Quebec franchise. Foote is the franchise leader
among defenseman in games played (920) and playoff games (170) and was a
member of Colorado's 1996 and 2001 Stanley Cup championship teams.
The 38-year-old is the second-highest scoring defenseman in team history with
251 points. His 195 career assists are a club record among blueliners.
"Adam's veteran leadership has been and will continue to be a big part of our
success," said Avalanche general manager and executive vice president Greg
Sherman. "He provided stability last season and set an example for our young
players right from the start of training camp. We are pleased to have our
captain back for another year."
Selected in the second round of the 1989 NHL Draft by the Quebec Nordiques,
Foote is also a three-time Olympian with Team Canada (1998, 2002, 2006) and
won gold at the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City.
In 1,107 career games, including a nearly three-year stint with Columbus,
Foote has accumulated 66 goals and 234 assists with a plus-108 rating. He was
plus-eight with nine helpers and zero goals in 67 games this past season.
