Bears and Pokes square off in Stillwater
NCAA Basketball Betting Lines
02/20/2010 -
Stillwater, OK (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - A pair of teams trying to improve their
status in the Big 12 Conference meet in Stillwater today, as the 22nd-ranked
Baylor Bears come calling on the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Baylor recently notched its third straight 20-win season, a program first, by
whipping Texas Tech on Tuesday night in an 88-70 final. The Bears are now 20-5
on the year and 7-4 in conference. The Bears have won three straight and six
of their last seven, but they are 4-3 in true road games and have won only
eight of their last 53 road conference tilts -- not exactly a confidence
builder today.
Oklahoma State is just two games behind the Bears in terms of overall record
(18-7), and just a game back in the Big 12 standings (6-5). The Cowboys have
won their last two outings to bounce back from a three-game losing streak, and
their most recent triumph was a 69-64 decision at Iowa State on Wednesday. OSU
is a near-flawless 12-1 at home.
Oklahoma State owns a 48-16 lead in the all-time series with Baylor, but the
Bears have won four of the last six meetings, including an 83-70 verdict in
Waco back on January 16th.
Baylor boasts one of the top offensive performers in the Big 12, as junior
guard LaceDarius Dunn is hitting nearly 41 percent of his three-point tries in
averaging 19.1 ppg. Tweety Carter joins Dunn in the BU backcourt, and is
netting 15.9 ppg while his 6.3 apg lead the conference. Ekpe Udoh is one of
the few players in the nation currently averaging a double-double, checking in
with 13.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. As a team, the Bears are shooting
48.8 percent from the floor, 38.4 percent from three-point range and 71.2
percent from the foul line in putting up 77.2 ppg. At the other end, foes are
scoring just 64.1 ppg in converting a mere 37.5 percent of their total shots.
Baylor owns a +8.0 edge on the boards, but is -1.7 in turnover margin. Dunn
was once again on top of his game in the recent win over Texas Tech, going 9-
of-13 from the floor in scoring 30 points, while Carter (12 points, 11
assists) and Udoh (13 points, 11 boards) both recorded double-doubles. Quincy
Acy came off the bench to tally 10 points for the Bears, who connected on 54.1
percent of their field goal attempts while the Red Raiders turned the trick at
43.6 percent.
Obi Muonelo scored a season-high 31 points, helping Oklahoma State claim a
five-point win at Iowa State on Wednesday night. James Anderson added 20
points for the Cowboys, who blew a 20-point lead but rallied to post their
18th win of the campaign. Muonelo, who scored 25 points in the second half,
went 10-of-19 from the floor, including 6-of-13 from beyond the arc, and
Anderson added four treys to help the Pokes go 12-of-30 from long range on the
night. Overall, OSU shot 42.6 percent from the field, while holding ISU to
35.1 percent. Like Dunn for Baylor, Oklahoma State has its own superstar in
Anderson, a 46.9 percent shooter who is averaging 22.5 points and 5.8 rebounds
per game. Muonelo is netting 13.4 ppg and adds 5.4 rpg to his stat line, while
Keiton Page rounds out the unit's double-digit scorers with 10.4 ppg and his
62 assists narrowly lead the team. The Cowboys are giving up 67.1 ppg this
season, but are scoring 74.9 ppg behind 44.7 percent field goal accuracy. A
near three rpg advantage has also helped the cause.

MySportsbook.com: New College Football Clock Rules Examined
Coaches and bettors alike are desperate to make sense of the new time-keeping rules on the NCAA gridiron. One of the big stories to come out of the Ohio State-Texas clash last weekend was Texas coach Mack Brown's criticism of the NCAA's new clock rules that are intended to shorten the duration of college football games, therefore affecting college football betting.
"They scored with six minutes left and the game was over before we had a chance to do anything," Brown told ESPN.com. "I really hope whoever made these changes will go back and look them over."
Sure, it might be sour grapes; the Buckeyes thoroughly trounced the defending national champion Longhorns 24-7. However, Brown isn't alone in giving the changes their due thought. Bettors are also wondering about them, albeit for a completely different reason. Most experts agree that the changes will result in games being shortened by anywhere from 10 to 20 plays. The obvious consequence is lower scores, with more time rolling off the clock during changes of possession. (The Ohio State-Texas game flew well under the total of 52.)
According to research at the online sportsbook MySportsbook.com, more than 18 plays a game disappeared last weekend into thin air. That's a 10-percent reduction. In 2005, a typical game had 168.58 plays. For 2007 already, it's down to 150.26.
As a result, teams combined to gain an average of about 100 fewer yards a game last weekend versus the 2005 openers. Scoring was also down by about 4.5 points (attention Las Vegas sports lines).
Of course, oddsmakers were able to adjust to the changes before the season started. Proof of that came as the over went a balanced 8-9 at My Sportsbook on Saturday.
Other angles to consider:A shorter game should theoretically result in shorter lines. Whereas Team A might have been a 14-point favorite in a 168-play game (last year), if there are 10 percent less snaps in 2007, the line should also be reduced by 10 percent (to 13 or 12.5). Of course, this is an over-simplification of the matter, but something to keep in mind.
Less possessions means a better chance the game will be decided by three or seven points. For example, what might have been a 20-10 final score in 2005 may end at
17-10 in 2007. Granted, a 24-17 game last year might end at 21-17 these days, but the former - a three- or seven-point advantage being preserved as opposed to created - is the most likely scenario.
*UPDATE* - Sept. 25, 2007
New Clock Rules Boon for online bookmakers
By adjusting the time-keeping rules to shorten the duration of college football games, the NCAA hoped to make its product more enjoyable for the fans. While the NCAA's success in this regard is still up for debate, bookmakers couldn't be happier with the results.
"We are seeing a massive jump in college football betting," noted the MySportsbook.com management team. "With all the early Saturday games (12 a.m. ET) ending before the second wave begins (3:30 p.m. ET) - something that didn't always happen before the changes - bettors are now able to re-invest their winnings from the morning session in the afternoon games."
While not all bettors will choose to roll over their winnings, it doesn't take much for an impact to be seen on the bottom line. "Not all of the millions of dollars in morning payouts get re-bet. In fact, it's probably only 10 to 20 percent," noted the sportsbook management team. "Still, the increased football betting lines window will create a ton of growth for us over the course of the season."

MySportsbook.com refunds all bets on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay from NFL week one.
(September 14) – Week one of NFL action saw three teams go scoreless for the first time since 1977. Another four were unable to get a touchdown and almost half of the underdogs covered the spread. Those three teams saved bettors at MySportsbook.com from losing out completely, thanks to the company’s unique NFL Shutout Rule -- which ensures that if the team you backed goes scoreless, your wager is refunded.
Sportsbook refunded tens of thousands of dollars to customers who bet on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay, the three teams that stunk up the field so badly that their fans and backers never had a chance to get up from their couches and cheer. In the spirit of the low scoring start to the season, odds makers at the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino have set odds on how many total shutouts there will be this season.

After beating up on his little brother last week, Peyton Manning will look to lead the Colts to victory against Houston. Indianapolis is a whopping 13.5 favorite in the match-up.
Seattle, last year’s highest scoring team, showed the power of their defense with their gritty 9-6 win in Motown over the ravenous Lions. They take their act back home to the comforts of Qwest Field where they will face the resurgent Arizona Cardinals. The Seahawks are favored by a touchdown.
