Clemson makes Brownell next basketball coach

NCAA Basketball Betting Lines

04/13/2010 - Clemson, SC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Clemson has made Brad Brownell its next men's basketball coach, the school announced Tuesday.

Brownell spent the last four seasons at Wright State, and he replaces Oliver Purnell, who resigned earlier this month to take the opening at DePaul. Brownell will be introduced at a press conference at 4:00 p.m. (et).

Brownell guided Wright State to at least 20 wins in each of his seasons with the program, including a 23-10 mark and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2006-07. His teams at Wright State went 84-45, including 49-21 in the Horizon League.

"Brad Brownell is an unbelievable coach," said Butler head coach Brad Stevens, who coached against Brownell in the Horizon League. "He has been a winner everywhere he has been. I am happy to see Brad go to a great school and a great program like Clemson. He is a quality coach and a quality person. Clemson has hired a big time basketball coach."

Prior to coaching at Wright State, Brownell spent four seasons as head coach at UNC-Wilmington, a tenure that included two NCAA tourney appearances. He owns an overall head coaching record of 167-85.
