Cubs eye winning streak against Brewers

04/14/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Randy Wells will try to follow up an excellent season debut
from last week when he takes this hill this afternoon for the Chicago Cubs in
the continuation of a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers from
Wrigley Field.
Wells went 12-10 with a 3.05 earned run average as a rookie last year and he
carried over that success last Thursday versus the Braves. The 27-year-old
righty hurled six scoreless innings in a 2-0 victory, working around six hits
and two walks while getting three double plays.
"There were a couple innings I got out of whack and got runners on. I let the
game get a little too fast for me," said Wells, who is 1-1 with a 2.95 ERA in
his career versus the Brewers. "But the sinker was sinking just enough and I
was able to keep them off the fastball with the changeup."
Wells will try to pitch the Cubs to consecutive victories for the first time
this season after they took Monday's home opener, 9-5, over the Brewers.
Xavier Nady, Aramis Ramirez and Jeff Baker all homered in the victory for a
Chicago team that had been held to two runs or less in three of its first six
games.
Ryan Dempster got the win despite allowing five runs on seven hits and four
walks over 6 1/3 innings.
"It's awesome. It really is," Dempster said about the win. "It's great for our
city, great for our fans, for our owners and for us as players. Anytime you
win a game, it's not easy to do."
Derrek Lee had two hits and scored twice before exiting in the fourth inning
due to inflammation of his right thumb. The first baseman is day-to-day.
"[Lee] hit a ball that jarred his finger a little bit so we got him out of the
ballgame," Cubs manager Lou Piniella told Chicago's Web site. "He had some
swelling in it."
Ryan Braun drove in four runs, including a three-run homer for the Brewers,
who have lost three of their last four. Corey Hart also drove in a run, but
starter Doug Davis was tagged for six runs over 3 1/3 innings.
"It's going to take a couple of good, quality starts to get back in it," Davis
told Milwaukee's Web site. "I'm hoping to redeem myself in my next couple of
starts."
Dave Bush will try to get the Brewers back on track this afternoon. He faced
the Cardinals on Friday and got a no-decision because of a blown save by
closer Trevor Hoffman. The right-handed Bush yielded three runs on four hits
over 5 2/3 innings, striking out six.
The 30-year-old is 2-8 with a 5.13 ERA lifetime versus Chicago, going 1-1 with
a 6.20 ERA in four starts against the club last year.
The Cubs won 10 of 17 versus the Brewers last year, including five of eight at
home.

NFL betting action is back! At MySportsbook, all of the pro football odds are posted for the NFC North.
Check out how we see the four teams in this cloudy division stacking up this year in the chase for the playoffs! Green Bay Packers (+125) - With QB Aaron Rodgers leading the offense and DC Dom Capers working his magic on defense, the Packers are a real force to be reckoned with.
Virtually nothing changed on this offense for Green Bay from last year to this year, save for the addition of rookie OT Brian Bulaga to the bunch. Expect more huge numbers from the Pack, and a relatively favorable schedule should get them over the hump and into the playoffs once again this season. My NFL Betting Predictions: 11-5, 1st place in NFC North Minnesota Vikings (+130) - There are still too many unknowns about the Vikes this year. There is a huge difference between QB Brett Favre and either Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels under center. Plus, is Favre comes back, is he really going to be able to keep his pick total under double digits again? Depth at running back looked like it might have been an issue with RB Chester Taylor fleeing in free agency, but drafting RB Toby Gerhart should pick up the difference. This defense is still suitable, but with a first place schedule, making the playoffs is going to be very tough regardless of whether #4 comes back or not.

Chicago Bears (+350) - The Bears are probably a bit of an overhyped team once again this year. No, we don't think it is plausible for QB Jay Cutler to have as bad of a season as he did last year, and we do think the additions of RB Chester Taylor and DE Julius Peppers are going to help immensely, but there's still something in the water in the Windy City that we aren't so sure about. Maybe Chicago finds its way to .500... but then again, maybe it doesn't. If Favre comes back, Cutler might be the worst quarterback in this division this year.
Detroit Lions (+1500) - The Lions are probably once again going to be the whipping boys for the rest of the teams in the NFC North, but they aren't just going to roll over and die once again. There is some real talent amassing on this team offensively, as the combination of QB Matt Stafford, RB Jahvid Best, WR Calvin Johnson, and TE Brandon Pettigrew should put a bunch of points on the board if the offensive line can even remotely hold up. The questions really lie on defense, where it feels like DT Ndamukong Suh is going to be trying to stop opposing teams all by himself. This year should show some marked improvement in the Motor City.

Brandon Roy Favorite to Win 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year
Portland TrailBlazer’s guard, Brandon Roy, is MySportsbook.com’s overwhelming favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year odds.
Despite missing 20 games due to an injury earlier this season, Roy has definitely put up the best numbers of his 1st year peers. In 32 games, Roy is averaging 15.3 PPG, 4.2 boards and 3.5 assists in over 33 minutes of play per game. While most rookies breakdown as the season progresses (see Morrison), Roy is only getting stronger as his playing time and scoring average has increased each month.
With 30 or so games left in the regular season, Roy isn’t a lock for the award by any means. Other rookies are putting together some pretty impressive campaigns and a few could give Roy a run for the award with increased playing time. Heading the list is first pick, Andrea Bargnani of the Toronto Raptors. Even though he has started only two games all season, Bargnani is averaging 10.3 PPPG while shooting 35% from deep.
Randy Foye of the Minnesota Timberwolves could be set to give Roy the best competition NBA Rookie of the Year betting lines. With the benching of Mike James, Foye looks like he could be the starter in the T-Wolves backcourt for the rest of the season. So far, Foye has averaged 9 PPG and 2.4 assists in just under 21 minutes per game. With his new role of starter, Foye’s numbers will definitely increase. In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.
Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.
