Cubs suspend Zambrano indefinitely after incidentBaseball Betting Lines06/25/2010 - Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Chicago Cubs indefinitely suspended starting pitcher Carlos Zambrano for his actions during Friday's game against the White Sox. After allowing four runs in the first inning of an eventual 6-0 loss, Zambrano (3-6) was visibly upset and got in a heated exchange with teammate Derrek Lee in the Cubs' dugout. The outburst ended with an overturned cooler and spelled the end of Zambrano's outing, as Tom Gorzelanny was on the mound at the start of the second. After the game, the Cubs announced the suspension for the fiery right-hander, who was making his fifth start since being reinserted into the starting rotation. For the season, Zambrano has pitched to a 5.66 earned-run average in 22 games -- nine starts. The 29-year-old was also suspended six games last season by Major League Baseball after an in-game incident saw him initiate contact with an umpire, launch a baseball into left field and take a bat to a Gatorade bucket.
