Cyclones hope to end run of futility against 10th-ranked Wildcats

Ames, IA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Iowa State Cyclones have lost 18 straight
games to top-25 foes and will attempt to end that skein this afternoon in
Ames, as they play host to the 10th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats in Big 12
action from the Hilton Coliseum.
The Wildcats are an impressive 4-1 in true road games this season and enter
this tilt following a 76-57 whipping of Nebraska in Lincoln on Tuesday. The
win was the fifth in the last seven games for KSU and pushed the team's
conference mark to 5-3.
The Cyclones have enjoyed most of their success in Ames, with 10 of the team's
13 victories coming at home. Still, the team has struggled of late regardless
of the venue, dropping four of its last five outings, including an 84-63
lopsided affair at Baylor on Wednesday.
Kansas State has won the last seven meetings with Iowa State and three
straight in Ames.
The Wildcats got a huge effort from senior Denis Clemente, as he hit five
three-pointers en route to a game-high 23 points in a rout of Nebraska this
week. The 19-point win marked the largest margin of victory in a league road
game for KSU since the Big 12's inception. Joining Clemente is double figures
were Jamar Samuels, who came off the bench to net 15 points, and Jacob Pullen
and Curtis Kelly, who chimed in with 13 and 12 points, respectively. The
Wildcats possess some serious offensive firepower, netting 81.0 ppg on a
respectable .461 shooting. The team boasts of four players currently averaging
double figures. Pullen is the best of the bunch, shooting a solid .410 from
behind the arc, leading to 19.0 ppg. Clemente has the ability to create for
himself (15.0 ppg) and others (team-high 89 assists). Samuels (12.0 ppg, 5.1
rpg) and Kelly (11.2 ppg, team-high 6.3 rpg) provide plenty of depth.
A close game in the first half got out of hand after the break, as ISU allowed
Baylor 11 second half offensive rebounds, leading to a 24-11 edge in rebounds
in the second half for the hometown Bears. It also didn't help that Baylor
connected on 53.1 percent from the floor, compared to a 43.6-percent effort
for the Cyclones. Craig Brackins led the way offensively for ISU, finishing
with 19 points. Marquis Gilstrap followed with 145 points, but it wasn't
nearly enough to earn a road win in Waco. ISU is shooting an effective .469
from the floor this year, but the result is a pedestrian 74.4 ppg. Brackins
and Gilstrap are the top producers this season and form quite the frontcourt
tandem. Brackins leads the team in scoring at 16.5 ppg and ranks second in
rebounding (8.0 rpg). Gilstrap is netting 14.5 ppg and paces the team on the
boards (9.3 rpg).

Chiefs' Treen Green out for Sunday's game
How long Trent Green will remain sidelined is unknown. Coach Herm Edwards said Monday he will miss a second straight start Sunday when the Chiefs host the San Francisco 49ers.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Green was going into a feet-first hook slide when he was knocked unconscious by a thunderous, head-snapping hit from Cincinnati's Robert Geathers.
Oddsmakers at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com currently have the Chiefs listed as 7-point favorites versus the 49ers.
The 49ers got beat by Philadelphia 38-24 as a 6.5-point underdog last week. The combined score went OVER the posted over/under total (42.5).
Alex Smith completed 27-of-46 passes for 293 yards with a touchdown. Michael Robinson rushed for 29 yards and a pair of touchdowns on five carries.
The Chiefs lost 9-6 to Denver last week as an 11-point underdog. The combined score was well UNDER the posted over/under total (38).
Larry Johnson rushed for 126 yards on 27 carries. Damon Huard completed 17-of-23 passes for 133 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
