Rockets in flight vs. Raptors
Basketball Betting Lines
02/28/2007 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Toronto Raptors conclude a three-game road trip tonight
when they travel to Houston and the Toyota Center to battle the Rockets.
The Atlantic Division-leading Raptors fell to 1-1 on the trek Monday when they
were downed by the San Antonio Spurs, 107-91. Rasho Nesterovic had 16 points
and nine rebounds for the Raptors, who had a two-game winning streak broken.
Rookie Andrea Bargnani tallied 17 points and Chris Bosh 14 for Toronto, which
lost the services of guard Anthony Parker in the second quarter due to a right
ankle injury.
Parker was hurt when he landed on the foot of San Antonio's Bruce Bowen with
4:55 remaining until halftime. Parker had to be helped to the locker room with
the Spurs ahead 49-30 at the time. He is questionable for tonight's game.
Forward Jorge Garbajosa, who played against the Spurs and had eight points,
also finds himself questionable for tonight's game because of a right knee
injury.
Toronto leads the Atlantic standings by 3 1/2 games over New Jersey and will
aim to improve its 11-18 mark on the road tonight. The Raptors return home on
Friday to host Milwaukee.
Houston was without the services of star guard Tracy McGrady on Monday, and
was defeated by lowly Boston, 77-72.
McGrady missed the game with flu-like symptoms and his absence was evident in
a lackluster offensive effort. Bonzi Wells, starting in place of McGrady,
scored 27 points and Juwan Howard had 12 points for Houston, which has lost
three of five.
The Rockets are still without center and leading scorer Yao Ming, while
McGrady is questionable tonight because of his illness.
Houston, which is currently fifth overall in the Western Conference, is 20-8
at the Toyota Center this year. The club will travel to Denver for a matchup
on Friday.
The Rockets are 9-2 all-time against the Raptors. Both of those setbacks came
last year as Toronto swept the two-game season series. The clubs are meeting
for the first time this season tonight.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value
If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture. Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).
For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot. The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.
TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.
"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,' it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."
"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.
Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash. Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
