Tejada helps O's avoid sweep by Marlins

06/24/2010 -
Baltimore, MD (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Miguel Tejada hit a three-run homer and
finished with four RBI and three runs scored, as the Baltimore Orioles avoided
a sweep and defeated the Florida Marlins, 11-5, in the finale of a three-game
interleague series at Camden Yards.
Craig Tatum posted three hits, two runs scored and an RBI while Julio Lugo
scored twice with an RBI for the Orioles, who put the brakes on a three-game
skid. Adam Jones homered and Luke Scott drove in two runs in the victory.
Kevin Millwood (2-8) started for Baltimore and picked up the win after he
tossed five innings and allowed four runs on eight hits.
Dan Uggla finished 4-for-5 and recorded three runs batted in for Florida,
which saw its three-game win streak halted. This marked the second game for
the Marlins with interim manager Edwin Rodriguez. Fredi Gonzalez was fired on
Wednesday. Gaby Sanchez added three hits and two runs scored in the loss.
Florida starter Nate Robertson (5-6) lasted only 2 1/3 innings and was charged
with five runs on seven hits.
The Marlins grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Chris Coghlan
doubled leading off the game and scored when Hanley Ramirez singled with one
out. Later in the frame, Ramirez crossed the plate on a base hit by Uggla.
An RBI double by Sanchez in the second made it 3-0 for the visitors.
A five-run uprising in the bottom of the third frame put the Orioles on top.
Tatum's ground-rule double started the stanza and after Cesar Izturis bunted
his way to first base, the O's had runners on the corners. Lugo's single
brought home Tatum and another base hit by Tejada plated Izturis.
Nick Markakis' infield single then loaded the bases for Ty Wigginton, who
singled home Lugo. With the bags still full, a long fly ball by Scott saw
Tejada tag-up from third and Baltimore moved ahead, 4-3. The rally was capped
by Jones' RBI double.
Florida drew within one in the top of the fifth via Uggla's RBI single, but
the hosts regained their two-run advantage in the bottom portion of the frame
on a solo homer by Jones, his 11th of the season.
Scott's RBI double in the bottom of the sixth pushed the Baltimore lead to
7-4. Tejada led off with an infield single and eventually raced around to
score on Scott's two-out, two-base hit.
The scoring continued in the seventh when Tejada drilled a fastball over the
wall in left field. Tatum singled leading off and Lugo was hit by a pitch
before Tejada's three-run blast -- his fifth homer of 2010.
The final Baltimore run came in the eighth on Tatum's run-scoring double.
The scoring was capped by Florida in the top of the ninth on Uggla's RBI
single.

Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup
September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com. The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current Ryder Cup betting odds favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.
Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to name a few. Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR. They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.
The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer. Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.
