Union take aim at three points against Revs
Soccer Betting Lines
08/27/2010 -
Foxborough, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Two teams coming off of disappointing losses
last time out hook up at Gillette Stadium on Saturday as the New England Revolution play host to the Philadelphia Union.
Both sides enter the weekend on the outside of the playoff picture in Major
League Soccer, meaning that the three points on offer will be vitally
important.
The Union suffered a 2-0 defeat at Eastern Conference cellar-dwellers D.C. United last Sunday, and the loss drew particularly harsh criticism from Union
coach Peter Nowak.
"I told the guys in the locker room, I'm extremely disappointed, not only with
the result, but with the way we played," Nowak told mlssoccer.com following
the game. "There was no substance in the whole game today. From the back, with
the simple mistake we could have cleaned up, and in the overall game, even
offensively."
"I think that was the worst performance I've seen in the eight months with
this team," he said. "We have to be real about the situation that this stuff
is not going to fly with me."
The coach has not had a lot to be happy about lately with his team extending
its winless streak to six games with the loss, and with his team sitting in
seventh place in the East, a playoff spot is highly unlikely barring a major
turnaround.
Revolution coach Steve Nicol was not quite as upset after his team's 4-1
defeat to the Kansas City Wizards, but he also knows that an immediate
response is needed if his team is to improve its own playoff hopes.
"We need to get rested and get after it again," Nicol said. "The only thing I
can tell you is that we will have to do that. I'm confident of that - it'll
never be in question. We just need to do things better moving forward when we
have it and when we don't have it."
The Revs clearly didn't have it last Saturday as they entered the game having
given up three goals in their previous five games, but then yielded four goals
to the Wizards.
New England will also have an eye toward the SuperLiga final on Wednesday as
they will host Mexican side Morelia.

Chiefs' Treen Green out for Sunday's game
How long Trent Green will remain sidelined is unknown. Coach Herm Edwards said Monday he will miss a second straight start Sunday when the Chiefs host the San Francisco 49ers.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Green was going into a feet-first hook slide when he was knocked unconscious by a thunderous, head-snapping hit from Cincinnati's Robert Geathers.
Oddsmakers at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com currently have the Chiefs listed as 7-point favorites versus the 49ers.
The 49ers got beat by Philadelphia 38-24 as a 6.5-point underdog last week. The combined score went OVER the posted over/under total (42.5).
Alex Smith completed 27-of-46 passes for 293 yards with a touchdown. Michael Robinson rushed for 29 yards and a pair of touchdowns on five carries.
The Chiefs lost 9-6 to Denver last week as an 11-point underdog. The combined score was well UNDER the posted over/under total (38).
Larry Johnson rushed for 126 yards on 27 carries. Damon Huard completed 17-of-23 passes for 133 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Albert Pujols to be This Year's Home Run Champ Says Online Sportsbook
Barry Bonds is a 50-1 long shot to be this year's home run champ odds. The favorite to be this year's home run champ is none other than Albert Pujols, however.
Now that Barry Bonds is signed and in Giants camp, it is on to his pursuit of all of sports most prestigious records: the all-time home run mark. Bonds sits just 21 homers shy of tying Hank Aaron for the career mark at 755. Word out of Giants’ camp is that Bonds is the healthiest he has been in a few years. Bonds is just two seasons removed from his injury riddled 2005 campaign where he played in only 14 games and hit only 5 home runs. He did come back last year and had a solid season hitting .270 with 26 bombs. All eyes will be on Bonds this spring and summer not only because of his home run chase but his highly publicized steroid abuse allegations. If and when Bonds breaks the record, he surely will not get the positive attention one should for breaking a record that was once thought of as “unbreakable”. Despite Bonds decent season last year, he is just 50-1 at MySportsbook.com to lead the MLB in long balls this season.
Not surprisingly, the favorites to go deep the most times this season are Albert Pujols 5-1, Ryan Howard 6-1, David Ortiz 8-1 and Alex Rodriguez 12-1. With 49 homers, Pujols finished second in the National League behind Howard (58). Pujols is considered the favorite due to the consistent power numbers that he has posted since breaking into the league in 2001. Also one must consider the fact that he played in 16 fewer games then Howard did due to an injury. Howard smashed 58 homers in his first complete season of big league play en route to the National League MVP odds award. He silenced his critics by successfully hitting left-handed pitching. Howard also displayed the ability to use his power to the opposite field. Two attributes which should keep Howard amongst the league leaders in long balls for years to come. From the American League representatives, David Ortiz leads the field. Ortiz was second in the majors last year with 54 home runs. Except for 1999 when he only played in 10 games, Ortiz has improved on his home run numbers each year he has been in the majors (1997).
