Pistons end awful season by topping Minnesota

Basketball Betting Lines

04/14/2010 - Minneapolis, MN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Tayshaun Prince scored 20 points to lead the Detroit Pistons to a 103-98 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in the season finale for both teams at Target Center.

Jonas Jerebko posted 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Pistons, who finished their 2009-10 season with a 27-55 record. This marked the franchise's fewest number of wins in a regular season since a 21-61 record in the 1980-81 season. Charlie Villanueva notched 16 points while both Austin Daye and DaJuan Summers added 12 points in the win.

Corey Brewer scored a game-high 27 points for the Timberwolves, who ended their campaign with a dreadful 15-67 record. Al Jefferson contributed 16 points and 11 boards while Darko Milicic totaled 15 points in the loss.

Minnesota tied a franchise record with 67 losses.

The Timberwolves controlled the action through three quarters, but it was all Detroit in the final stanza and it was in fact the final 12 minutes which decided the contest.

The Pistons trailed 79-68 entering the fourth quarter but used a 15-3 run to start the frame. Villanueva was dominant during the spurt, scoring 11 consecutive points -- the final 11 points of the run. His layup less than two minutes into the frame preceded his three-pointer that brought Detroit within 80-77.

After two foul shots by Minnesota's Ramon Sessions, Villanueva drained three consecutive free throws and then connected from beyond the arc moments later for an 83-82 Detroit lead with 8:40 remaining.

Brewer drained a triple about a minute later, but the Pistons regained the lead after a dunk by Jerebko and a trey by Summers for a 90-87 advantage. With 3:31 on the clock, a pair of foul shots by Villanueva gave the visitors a 94-90 edge and they never trailed again, using strong foul shooting over the final minutes.

Pittsburgh earned their passage to the big game by beating their division rival, the Baltimore Ravens, 23-14 in yesterday's AFC Championship Game. The Steelers jumped on Baltimore early, building a 13-0 first half lead, and never let up on their way to a fairly easy win. Although the Ravens did close to within two points in the fourth quarter, it never appeared as if they had enough offense to pull off the upset.

The Steelers dominating defense held Baltimore to a total of 198 yards while allowing them to convert just three third downs in 13 attempts. Pittsburgh also forced quarterback Joe Flacco into three interceptions, one of which safety Troy Polamalu returned fourty yards for a touchdown.

The Cardinals, by far the playoff team with the longest odds to reach Super Bowl XLIII, did so yesterday with a 32-25 upset of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship. Arizona charged out of the gates and built a 24-6 halftime lead that had the Eagles venerable defense reeling. Quarterback Kurt Warner and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald did most of the damage, connecting on three first half touchdowns.

Arizona, however, could not sustain their momentum and the Eagles took a 25-24 with 10:45 left to play in the fourth. The Cardinals, with the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance hanging in the balance, mounted a fourteen play, 72 yard touchdown drive that consumed 7:52 off the clock. Warner hit running back Tim Hightower on a short screen for the go-ahead, game clinching score that will forever live in Cardinal infamy.

MySportsbook.com's Super Bowl XLIII Betting Odds:

Pittsburgh Steelers -6.5 (-110), Over 46.5 (-110), -260 (Money line)

Matt Foust won both of his conference championship plays yesterday and he is ready to serve up plenty of Super Bowl action. Each individual play costs $15.00, however, MySportsbook.com recommends purchasing Matt's NFL Playoff Package which includes all of Matt's Super Bowl props and picks from just $45.00.
