DeBoer spent the past three seasons as the head coach of the Florida Panthers, but was fired immediately after the 2010-11 campaign ended in April. Devils CEO Lou Lamoriello has been secretive in his search to replace the once-again retired Jacques Lemaire, who was talked out of retirement last December to replace the fired John MacLean.
